NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY- DECEMBER 2nd

Lots of first issues, all at once.
Blackest Night continues with 2 more mini-series, one for Flash and one for Wonder Woman. Both have more than a few deaths in their pasts and at least one major zombie bad-guy each.
The JSA spins off a 2nd series(it worked so well for JLA), seems like the younger heroes don't want to play with the "old" boys anymore.
The big book of the week is Seige Cabal, the lead-in to the Seige epic that will bring the big guns of the Marvel Universe back together. Only Thor, Cap and Iron Man united can hope to take down Osborn. The only one missing from this Avengers reunion is the big green guy.
Hulk is busy however in his own big crossover event as the Fall of the Hulks Alpha issue arrives the same day. Maybe the plan is to connect the two events at the end.
Marvels annual tradition of weekly What If?'s starts off with an alternate look at the Secret Invasion.
Jonah Hex hits 50,(I'd say he looks good for his age, but he's never looked good).
Hey look, the regular Thor comic is back, continuing from the story JMS set up in the Special this week and tying into the events of the Seige.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY- NOVEMBER 25th

DC gets a little heavy with the Blackest Night this week as an issue of Green Lantern arrives with Blackest Night #5 and Justice League #39(the last 2 are both ring-bearing comics).
Powers #1 is the latest relaunch of the eternally late comic (I don't see why Bendis even cares about this one anymore with all his huge Marvel projects).
And speaking of late comics...the J.M.S. Thor storyline finally wraps up in the Thor giant-size Finale #1,(why do they bother with the #1 on there? It's the END of the story guys).
The first volume of Chew, the story of the detective who eats his clues, arrives this week, along with the first issue of the next storyline. This one has been the surprise hit of the year, so get 'em while they last.
Hey the Image guys(all except Jim Lee) all decided to get together and do a team-up comic. Considering how long it took most of them to get a single issue of each of their own books out...Any bets on when(or IF) the last issue of this 6-issue mini-series will ever show up.
But the top story of the week is, Will Archie be happier with Betty than he was with Veronica? Find out in Archie #603, the 4th part of the Archie's Future, storyline.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY- NOVEMBER 18th

A pretty solid week with a few new things to mention.
Marvel continues their space epic with The Realm Of Kings, the lead-in issue and the first issue of the Inhumans mini both arrive this week.
The Black Knight sounds like a one-shot detailing the origin of the sword wielding Avenger, originally presented as an on-line digital comic.
Speaking of on-line comics, Joss Whedon's DR. Horrible, makes it to the printed page(with 3 covers no less). This one will obviously sell to all the Buffy buyers out there.
The 80 page DC specials continue with the Justice Society. The JLA 80pg sold quick and this one should too, with a great line-up of writers and artists handling 7 small stories around a theme of "lets explore the mansion headquarters".
Another zombie book starts this week, but Wildstorm was smart enough to send out review copies to the stores, so I can say that Victorian Undead is a great read. I thought from advance copy (and the cover image)that it was going to be a fun silly story about an undead Sherlock Holmes solving cases, but what I got to read was actually a very well scripted and nicely illustrated detective story involving the dead coming back to life( and some rather diabolical automatons) in Victorian England. Give this one a second look and don't dismiss it because of the cover.

HALLOWEEN

Its that time of year again when the ghosts and goblins and more than a few dead celebrities will be banging on your door, looking for treats. Well you know what I always say,

"Rot their brains, not their teeth"

This year, give the little ghouls a real treat and stick a comic book in their pumpkin. A comic book will last them a lot longer than candy or chips, and is a lot less messy to save or share. And unlike peanuts or milk chocolate, very few kids are actually allergic to printed words and colourful pictures.
Comics & More has a great deal with a pack of 10 comics for only $1.00. At 10cents a piece its cheaper than almost any sugary treat you could buy.

Shop early to get the best selection, I know from past experience, these packs sell fast. And don't underestimate how many you'll need. With Halloween falling on a Saturday night, you may see a lot more kids than usual.
There's 2 more benefits to the comics, they won't go bad if you get stuck with a few leftovers, and you won't be tempted to eat them yourself.

While you're here, pick up a treat for yourself.

On the same table with the Halloween packs, we have a nice assortment of horror themed books on sale.

Marvel Zombies, Man-Thing, Ghost Rider, and some Haunt of Horror collections, could all help pass some time between scary visitors. Priced at only $10.00 for the paperbacks and $12.00 for hardcovers, they're a frighteningly good deal.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY- OCT. 21st

Its a pretty slow week coming up for the 21st. It looks like the major publishers are planning on weighing us down with a ton of stuff for the end of the month.

Its an odd week when the biggest books are not Marvel or DC. In fact the biggest seller this week will be Archie #602,the 3rd part of the Archie's future story. This time around we get to see Archie as a dad, as him and Veronica have twins. I still can't get over the number of stores saying that they can't sell this comic. A day doesn't go by that someone new(usually a mom and daughter together) comes in and asks for the most recent issue.

For many young girls, this is their first introduction to the world of comics collecting. They've read Archie comics before, but now are interested in the whole process of bagging and boarding their purchase to keep it in good condition.

I'm not sure what the response to next months issue will be though, as its Betty's turn to marry Archie.

Marvel has been producing all kinds of comics with Noir in the title, but this book is the real thing.

Hard-core crime fiction by some of the biggest names in the business. Brubaker, Azzarello, and Lapham all bring their years of experience to the fore along with some talented newcomers, like Jeff Lemire. When you team these guys up with artists like Sean Philips , Eduardo Barreto and Dean Motter, hey, the book practically screams , BUY ME!

On the main stream end of things, Marvel and DC each have a new issue entry for the week. Although neither one is really an unknown commodity. Azrael#1 is the relaunch of a character that came about as a result of DC thinking it needed to IMAGE up its main characters. A tougher, nastier, grittier Batman was the result, and that person eventually took his own identity as the Sword of Azrael. This new version was introduced over the last year in various Batman stories and was featured in the 2-part Annual crossover the last 2 weeks.
The Dark Reign-List titles have been solid sellers so far, and there's no reason to think that the Hulk entry this week will be any less than a quick mover.

As usual, you can check out the on-line store for more info on these books and a full list of everything else that will be on the shelves here come Wednesday morning.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY- OCTOBER 7th

Pretty busy week coming up, with a batch of new first issues as well as some books of note.
First off is the stack of Batman titles arriving. Along with the latest issue of Batman and Robin we also get the Batman annual, which is the first issue of a crossover between the Bat annuals, leading up to the relaunch of the Azreal title later this month. Batman Unseen #1 is the start of what looks to be another great mini-series by the Doug Moench and Kelly Jones team. These guys deliver a fairly solid story every time(Gotham After Midnight was their last one), and this time around they have Batman fighting an Invisible Man. Good story to start off this close to Halloween, and Jones art is the perfect fit for this Hero/Horror mix.

Speaking of Heroes and Horror, two other titles are starting off this week with that mix. Doctor Voodoo(formerly Brother Voodoo) takes over as the Sorcerer Supreme, a story continuing from the recent events of the Dark Reign in Dark and New Avengers titles. Don't worry about the old Doctor though, Stephen Strange will get his spotlight in his own Strange title in a few weeks.
Todd McFarlane is hoping to hit big again with his "new" creation, Haunt. I have a feeling he's banking a lot of its potential success on his pairing with writer Robert Kirkman(Walking Dead and Invincible).

Not Halloween related but still of note is the latest issue of Astonishing X-Men, where Ellis is joined by fan-favourite artist Phil Jimenez. The double-spread cover should be worth the price alone.
The X-Babies are back and they've brought the Star characters back with them. Most people under 30 probably won't even know who the Star heroes are, but they were basically Marvel's version of the Harvey kids line, guys like Richie Rich and such. I just hope they are better received this time around, as we could use some more kid -aged comics around the store.
Jonathan Hickman's run on Fantastic Four has been doing so well I've had to re-order the first few issues a couple times now. Well I'm sure I'll have to re-order the Dark Reing Fan-four collection quick as well, as it is basically Hickman's lead-in to the regular series and was pretty much ignored by people over-dosed on Dark Reign tie-ins.

Another quick selling book this week will be the Peter and Max Fables hardcover. This is a story book style book rather than a graphic novel. But it is an all new story by Willingham set in his hugely popular Fables universe, and has some beautiful illustrations by the wonderful Steve Leialoha, whose art lends itself perfectly to the fantasy genre.

Remember to check out the rest of the week's offerings at the on-line store
PLEASE NOTE:
New comics arrive as usual on Wednesday next week, ( the 14th)despite the Thansgiving holiday.
