Well I finally got some passes today for the Wizard Toronto Comicon.
I'll be selling these up to the day of the show, or until they run out.
The price is $25.00 for 1 day or $45.00 for the full weekend.
Regular customers can get an extra $5.00 off from me when they pick up their comics on hold.

Investment Opportunities

So a couple guys were in the store the other day, and seemed upset that I had placed a store sticker on the front of the Iron Man #1 reprints we were giving away. They were mad that this FREE comic was now worthless because of my thoughtless need to advertise my store.
The fact is the books did indeed cost me money(as all the comics given away on Free Comic Book Day do) and the ad sticker I put on the front is how I justify the cost to my accountant.
I told them that the following First issue reprints would be stickerless but they have a cover price of a $1.00. They actually seemed to have no interest in any of these after they were told that they are "reprints". Apparently they just couldn't see the point of buying books that "will never be worth anything".
The idea that they could read these books and potentially enjoy them, never entered their greedy little, gotta make a buck off everything, minds.
So in the interest of capitilism and the profit minded among you, I am offering a sure thing investment. A guaranteed way for you to DOUBLE your money.
Pick out any of the dollar comics as they come in, base your choices on genre, story content,cover art, or the name, or anything else of interest. If you like the first issue enough to want to read more, then just bring in that first issue with you, and I will give you $2.00 off the paperback or hardcover collection that issue starts off.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY - MARCH 10th

Pretty average week this time around. Couple of new first issues, but nothing really major, mostly just one-shots.
Hulk Let the Battle Begin is billed like a lead-in to World War Hulks, but sounds more like a filler story with some stuff added to help it sell.
JLA Rise and Fall #1 continues the events from the last few pages of Cry for Justice #7 as Green Arrow's actions split the League up.
Superman Last Stand of New Krypton, (besides being a really long title),starts to tie together Geoff Johns long running reboot of the Legion and their connection with Superman.
Mystic Hands of Doctor Strange, is a nice looking Marvel one-shot featuring 4 short stories done in B&W.
The Twelve Spearhead, is a solo issue set in WW2, and does nothing to finish up the main story that never got finished when Strazynski left Marvel. Should read well on its own though.
Wolverine Mr X, pits Wolverine against the killer most recently seen as part of Norman Osborns Thunderbolts.
And the Pet Avengers are back together for another 4 issue run.

Don't forget, this weeks MGC, is Wonderful Wizard of Oz #1, a great book made better when you get it for only a buck.

Wizard-Toronto Comic-Con

Just a quick note to let everyone know that I will have a booth at the Wizard Comicon the weekend of March 26-28th. It will be at the Direct Energy building on the CNE grounds just inside Prince's gate.
I should have some flyers advertising the show in store next week, and hopefully some passes to sell as well. The price will be $25.00 for a 1 day and $45.00 for a 3-day pass. Any customers planning on attending the event should contact me and let me know if you are interested in picking up a ticket from me rather than waiting to pay more at the door the day of the show.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY- MARCH 3rd

Well the February blahs are over, and as I thought, the publishers are starting all their first issues at the same time.
New titles this week include the start of Marvels "Girls Month" as they launch the 3 issue mini-series Savage She-Hulks, to tie into the Fall of Hulks X-over. Also the inspired title, Girl Comics, gives us the first of 3 issues of stories about the ladies of the Marvel universe, written and drawn by some very talented women.
Also from Marvel,
Prelude to Deadpool Corps pretty much speaks for itself, as does Ultimate Comics New Ultimates, which for some reason ships the same day as the last issue of the other Ultimate Comics Avengers title.
Another Stephen King adaptation arrives as "N" joins Dark Tower and The Stand at Marvel.
Beware,.. X-Men Hope #1 is reprint material that was back-up stories in some X-Men titles a few months back.
DC is a little more reasonable with only a few "newbies" but First Wave #1 should be the big seller of the week. Its the team-up book that features the Golden-Age versions of Batman,Spirit and Doc Savage.The Rags Morales art alone makes this one a must buy. Also Nemesis and Sparta USA both look really good too, and a nice change from all the super-hero action.
And Kevin Smiths version of Green Hornet will help fill in the racks too.
And Marvel Greatest Comics, the series of $1.00 reprint comics, starts this week with Iron Man #1, FOR FREE! while my supplies last.

BUCK BOOKS

I had a customer in the other day, I haven't seen since before Christmas, and he seemed surprised that I was still doing my backstock dollar sale. With a smile on my face I informed him that the dollar bins are not a sale, per se, but an on-going section of the store. Half of our backstock bins are permanently priced at $1.00 and a great way to pick up some cheap reading material. Don't make the mistake of thinking this is all "90's junk either. There's a lot of great 70's-80's Marvels mixed in with some current comics as well(mainly odd issues of mini-series or one-shot specials we over ordered on). And at the back of the store are several boxes of all-ages kid-friendly books priced at a dollar each as well.
On the topic of dollar comics, DC started a program last year where they reprinted several popular first issues for a dollar. Marvel and Image know a good idea when they steal it, so this year along with 5 DC/Vertigo comics, you can look forward to a half dozen Image books and a regular weekly from Marvel, all at the entry price of $1.00.

Starting the first week of March and continuing for at least 3 months, Marvel will put out a different reprint first issue for only a buck, in fact the first one arriving on March 3rd is Iron Man #1, and its FREE. The weeks after will give us Captain America and Thor #1's(after all they all have movies coming out), as well as Garth Ennis Punisher #1 and for the kid in all of us, Wizard of Oz #1.
Image and DC will start shipping their first issues specials in April, with such trade bait as Batman and Robin, Walking Dead and Ex Machina.

All of them are a great introduction to some of the best the industry has to offer(well except for Youngblood #1, I mean what were they thinking?) and Even if you already own these comics, it would be a great idea to pick up a few to give to those friends and family members who don't actively read comics. At the very least, supporting efforts like this can only encourage more "cheap" comics in the future.I will be stocking as heavily as I can on these and you can expect to see them on the shelves on Free Comic Book Day, Saturday May 1st.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY- FEBRUARY 24th

Well I knew the last week of the month would be a little busier, but this is ridiculous. Its a massive amount of material to fill the "new" comics shelves with. Only one book thats a first issue worth mentioning though.
Captain Swing is another Ellis title from Avatar. This one looks to be in a "Steampunk" universe and the art looks really sharp, if you can judge them by the covers.
Archie #606 is a wrap-up to the 6-parter, Archies Future, storyline. Its not numbered as part of the story though, so some fans might miss this one.
Hey, Flash Rebirth #6 finally arrives. I was afraid Blackest Night would wrap up before this did.
Speaking of Blackest Night, Green Arrow #30 features the zombie Green Arrow.
