WOW! Lots of stuff for middle of the month.
Not much to metion though as most of the #1's are all one-shots and specials.
Warren Ellis' series RED, is coming to the big screen soon, so of course we get 4 movie specials, one for each of the major characters all on the same day. None are by Ellis though, although artist Cully Hammer gets his name on one.
The JSA Special continues the idea of Kingdom Come being the future of the DC Universe.
Ghost Rider visits the Shadowland, and Wolverines clone, X-23, gets a regular? series.

And of course another Thor comic starts this week. It doesn't help that they all look soooo good, but enoughs enough already.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY - SEPT. 8TH

WOW! 5 Batman titles this week(including Batgirl and Red Robin), but at least they are all separate comics with different takes on the same character. Marvel is sending 2 issues of the 3 times a month Amazing Spider-Man together. That's not confusing at all.
Marvel continues to raise their prices by cancelling Dark Wolverine and quickly renaming it Daken Dark Wolverine,with a dollar added to the price.
The Invaders get back together in the present, after events in The Torch and the Invaders/Avengers mini-series'. DC brings the video game heroes, Ratchet and Clank, to the comics page, and gives us the 2nd of the weekly war titles, Weird War Tales.
I had a ton of people looking for Old Man Logan, at the Fanexpo last weekend. Well the paperback is here next week, for those who didn't pay too much for the hardcover already.

FANEXPO WRAP-UP

Well another Fanexpo weekend has come and gone. I have to say first of all that this was probably the busiest weekend I've ever experienced. There seemed to be a few glitches, like taking so much product my staff and I could barely move in the booth. But that wasn't much of a problem as books started selling quicker than we could refill the tables. Being right up front of the building was great exposure, and made us easier to find for returning buyers. The crowds packed around the table made it almost impossible to move past us at times.
I just wish I could have found some time to get out and see some of the great guests , or even take some more pictures of the fantastic characters and costumes all around the show.
It's hard to believe that even with that busy a weekend, I still planned a sale at the store for the coming weekend.
Saturday and Sunday SEPT. 4th-5th, will be a sequel to my 23rd anniversary sale from June.
If you're not off at the cottage for Labour Day, or busy with family in town to visit, stop by the store and get yourself some great deals and stock up on reading material for yourself and the kids before sending them back to school.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY -SEPT. 1st

Well we knew a big week was due, and here it is. (some of the items on this list actually arrived THIS week, due to an error on Diamonds end. The titles with a star -* after them are currently in store)
I am an Avenger seems to be another of those anthology titles with a couple short stories in each issue. (I kind of get the feeling that Marvel commissioned a lot of short 8-page stories on random characters to run as back-up stories when they jumped their comics to $4.00, the way DC did. But decided to just collect them all in their own comics and charge $4.00 for them too.)
Heroic Age One Month to Live, sounds like a neat story, as a character gets super powers and 1 month to use them. Its a weekly book told sort of in real-time.
Speaking of weekly events, DC starts the first of their War stories revivals with Our Army at War, look for another each week this month.
Marvel is trying to make Thor the "new" Deadpool as it seems another Thor comic starts up every week lately. That said, Thor for Asgard looks really good.
Marvel also has another X-Men Curse title this week as well as the Elektra issue of Shadowland, both great storylines, but starting to suffer from the too many x-overs syndrome.
Wolverine restarts his "new" regular series(his old ones have barely ended), don't miss the Road to Hell special, that arrives with the Wolverine #1 as it helps set up the Wolverine event which will introduce the Wolverine Family of titles starting up soon.

Marvel usually only packs on this many first issues to try and outsell a big DC title debut. I can't help but think that this weeks deluge is to try and take the spotlight away from the real first appearance of a totally new character.

Veronica #202 introduces, Kevin Keller, the one boy in Riverdale who has NO interest in Veronica, for a reason that becomes very obvious.

FANEXPO 2010

I've had a lot of people in the last few days asking me if I will be at the FANEXPO next weekend.
And of course, I answer with an enthusiastic YES! In fact I'm right up front, one of the first booths you see as you get off the escalators. (The RED square on the floorplan above)

I can't believe you even have to ask me such a question. What self respecting comic book store would not want to be involved in the largest comic themed convention in Canada. What makes it so big is that it doesn't just focus on comics, but features horror, anime and science fiction as well. And this year's show has moved back up to the North building, which as everyone knows is above ground level and looks out over Front street. So say hello to natural light and goodbye to the feelings of claustrophobia that you may have felt in previous years.

Come check out my booth, I'll have tables full of bargain paperbacks and hardcovers, as well as a great selection of full priced books like the Omnibus collections and DC Absolute editions.
Boxes full of single issue comics priced at $2.00 and less, for those of you looking to fill in a few gaps in your collection, will be on hand too. Somehow I will even find the room for all those statues and busts that I don't have room to display all at once in the store.

Don't worry if you can't make it down, the store will still be up and running as usual, although with slightly shortened hours. The store will be closing at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday August 26th-27th, so be sure to shop early those days.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY - AUGUST 25TH

Well it looks a little busier this week, but still not what we usually get at the end of the month.Then again, there's a holiday weekend coming up, and they love to pack the shelves for holidays.
Most of the #1's this week are pretty self-explanatory, Spider-Girl the End is another attempt to cancel her book, Namor the First Mutant(not counting Apocalypse and Sinister I suppose).Shadowland Moon Knight is the Daredevil crossover issue for this week,and X-Men the Curse gives us 2 X-over issues in their vampire storyline.
Guarding the Globe is a spin-off from Invincible(good idea shipping it the same time as Invincible #74).

Well, it looks like another fairly quite week.
We finally get a new issue of Buffy, even if it is a one-shot special.
Speaking of late books, DC finally ships the 50th and last issue of Ex Machina. Another great title that I'll be sad to see end.
The Boys spins-off a mini for our favourite wee laddie.
The Shadowland event gives us 2 more minis, with 3 issues devoted to Misty and Colleen(yay), and 4 issues to set up the new Power Man(meh).
I know the vampire thing is being overdone right now, but, Ides of Blood sounds original at least, as we get to see how the Roman empire would have fared with blood sucking slave labour.
The Phantom is a classic character that has been published by nearly every company over the decades. Now its Dynamites turn, as they start The Last Phantom.
Phoenix Without Ashes, is NOT a Marvel comic. Its a new Harlan Ellison title, featuring a mystery and the end of the world in the year 2785, you know, typical Ellison stuff.
