NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY - JULY 21st

Avatar gives us an Alan Moore penned story The Neonomicon, a sequel to the Courtyard. I'm pretty sure the Preview for this book came out some time last summer, so expect long gaps between issues with this one.
Speaking of late books, Marvel sends the MarvelMan Primer this week. Its meant to get you up to date on all the Who-Where and Why of Marvelman before they start reprinting the classic stuff, THAT STARTED 2 WEEKS AGO!
But that still doesn't top Red Mass For Mars #4. I think most of the people picking up this title had ever given up hope of seeing the last issue.
Wow, another Deadpool comic from Marvel. This time its Lady Deadpool from the Corps comic.
DC sends us on a trip with the Time Masters, as Rip and a small group of heroes travel back in time to stop Batman from returning to the present. WARNING, this book ties in with events from the huge selling Batman: Return of Bruce Wayne.
Gail Simone takes us back to Tranquility for a short mini-series. Welcome to Tranquility is my favourite title from the various relaunches of the Wildstorm Universe.
The HBO series True Blood, makes it to the printed page. They should have shipped this the same day as the new X-Men #1, so the vampires in comics readers could save themselves a trip.
Walking Dead makes it to issue #75, and to celebrate, it will be an over-sized issue with a colour back-up story.
And in case you'd missed it, Scott Pilgrim vol.6 arrives to finish off the epic story. With the movie premiering next month, this book will probably shatter all kinds of sales records.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY- JULY14th

I thought Marvel and DC got most of their #1's out of the way last week, so there would be less to mention today.
The Agents of Atlas spins off Gorilla Man into his own mini-series, and WWHulks continues with 2 Hulked out Heroes specials featuring slugfest action between the big guns of the Marvel universe. And of course they wouldn't be Marvel if they didn't send 3 X-Men titles with #1 in the name the same day.
Of course DC Wildstorm ships the first issue of the X-Files/30 Days of Night X-over at the same time to really fill up the right side of my new comics rack.
The comic I'll be reading first though is from Bongo. The greatest character ever created finally gets his own title as the Simpson's launches Comic Book Guy the comic #1.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY - JULY 7th

Well it looks like I was right. The publishers are sending a load of "new" stuff(mostly mini-series) to fill the shelves during the American Holiday week. It won't bother us though, because our comics still show up ON WEDNESDAY!
The Young Avengers finally return, even though the book is called Avengers the Children's Crusade. Its a 9 issue mini-series published bi-monthly.(Can you really call a 2 year storyline a mini?) The original team of Heinberg and Cheung are back, telling the self-contained(not a x-over) story of the kids helping Wiccan in his search for his mom, the Scarlet Witch.
Neal Adams returns to Batman in a big way with, Batman the Odyssey a 6 issue mini that may take a lot more than 6 months to tell.
Hellboy starts a new 3-issue, and the Hit-Monkey(from Deadpool) gets 3 issues too.
Classic Cap., Steve Rogers, gets 4 issues to prove he's a Super-Soldier, it's by Brubaker, and should set up some future storylines for the main Captain America title.
Classic MarvelMan stories start coming our way with the first of 6 issues. These are actual reprints of the cheesy Capt. Marvel(the DC version) type stories that ran in the U.K. during the 50's and 60's. $4.00 for old B&W reprints sounds pretty "cheesy" as well.
The "street" heroes get their turn at a mega crossover with Shadowland. Centered around the events in recent Daredevil issues, characters like Luke Cage and Iron Fist(of course Spidy and Wolvie will be there too)will help battle Bullseye, Elektra and tons of ninjas for control of the heart of New York. Despite the massive number of spin-offs and tie-ins this looks to have, the main book by Diggle should be pretty good.
Brightest Day spins off a one-shot featuring the "old" Atom, that leads into a regular back-up slot in Adventure Comics. It's written by Sweet Tooth creator, Jeff Lemire, so you wont want to miss it.
Bendis returns to his tough, female ,crime comic genre, with an all-new series, Scarlet. This time he's working with his buddy Maleev.
The only other #1 on the list that looks on-going is another X-Men title. Regular X-Men added the Legacy to its name a while back, so adjective less X-Men was available to restart. The book starts off with the X-Men facing off against a vampire(Twilight strikes again) horde. At least the X-Men have a history with Dracula from years back, I'm not sure how far this story will have go towards tying in with past events however.
The X-Women get a one-shot to shine, it looks a lot like a Sports Illustrated swim-suit special by the cover.
By now most of have seen the trailer for the live-action/animated Smurfs movie. Well I'm pretty sure the comic will be better. It was probably a smart idea to start off with a dollar comic first issue though.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY - JUNE 30th

Looks like a busy week, but there's not much big coming in. I guess the publishers are holding back for next week, they love shipping lots on the holiday weeks.

REMEMBER, there will be NO delays for the July 1st or 4th holidays. The comics will be here on WEDNESDAY JULY 7th.

Batman Beyond is back, and judging by Batman #700, it's in continuity this time. Still not sure how that works.
Another X-Men title, but this time its a little different. X-Campus #1 is a collection of stories by European creators with their own unique take on the mutants.
Death of Dracula is a one-shot that may tie -in with upcoming events in X-Men and the rest of the Marvel Universe.

Wonder Woman hits issue #600(they had to go back to the old numbers so she could have a big anniversary the same month as Batman and Superman)

G-23 SALE

I was listening to the radio yesterday, and they were doing a phone in survey on what people have planned to avoid the mess the G-20 is making of downtown Toronto. From the sounds of it, some people are just not understanding how much of a hassle it will be. One women was apparently naive enough to think that she was still going to a Jays game that day.

If you're tired of hearing about the G-20, then maybe you should be thinking G-23.
As in, GEE- Comics & More's 23rd anniversary sale is next weekend too.

Our store is in the East-End, well away from the security fences and barricades. And we're only steps from the Greenwood subway station, so leave the car at home and take the TTC.

Hopefully the weather will co-operate for all the plans we have here.

Tables will be lining the sidewalk in front of the store with boxes packed full of comics for the remarkably low price of only 23cents each. These are boxes that have been sitting in storage for years now, and its a real mix of stuff too, some going back to the 80's. But mostly from the '90's.

You remember that period when every comic seemed to have a foil cover. And putting Wolverine and Ghost rider together in a book, was like printing money.

There's lots of Byrne Fantastic Four issues and Grell's run on Green Arrow as well as stuff like Justice League Europe and Guardians of the galaxy.

Lots of non-DC and Marvel stuff too, such as the Dreamwave run on G.I.Joe., or Comico books like Justice Machine. Most of these books will be worth 23 cents just for the covers. I'm gonna take a copy of Fantastic Four #275 to the

FanExpo in August to see if Stan will sign it. (you can't tell me that's not him on the cover).

There'll also be piles of RED TAG paperbacks and hardcovers for only $10.00 each. The stuff I usually only haul out for conventions, and they will be included in the BUY 2 GET 1 FREE part of the sale too.

Hopefully there will be room for the T-Shirts I found while picking through the warehouse. I used to carry T-Shirts as a regular item in the store, but found sales to be too seasonal, making them a tough sale for most of the year. Everything I had left went in to storage, and now's the time to pull them out. Lots of great superhero shirts in a variety of sizes for $10.00 each.

Whatever it is you have planned for SATURDAY JUNE 26th or SUNDAY JUNE 27th

cancel those plans and get here for the biggest anniversary sale ever.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY- JUNE 23rd

Well, looks like another pretty average week. I guess the publishers are saving up for their typical last week of the month load.
Dynamo 5 returns with a 5 issue mini. And the Fringe t.v. series, gets another 6 issues.
The big guys only have 1 new book each, as Marvel sends us a one-shot special on Namora, princess of Atlantis.
D.C. restarts Green Arrow with a series that looks a little more like the Mike Grell version from years back, as the archer moves into the new Star City forest created in Brightest Day #1.

Superman hits the #700 mark, setting up the new run by J.M.S..

Sam Keith delivers a great new Batman hardcover set in Arkham Asylum.

And a great hrdcvr collection of fan-favourite Adam Hughes's DC covers arrives as well.
