NEW COMICS- APRIL 20th

Wow, pretty heavy week, lots of paperbacks all at once.
Dark Horse Presents returns in a BIG way after a decade or so off. Expensive book but well worth it with a great line-up of talent.
Legion of the Damned is a reprint of the stories that lead up to the Legion Lost hardcover coming soon. Odd that DC decided to collect this stuff in the cheaper comic format and the rest of the story in a deluxe hardcover.
Marvel has put together a collection of all those saga type freebies that fill you in on the reading order of some of their more popular collections. Originally priced like a comic, they lowered the price enough to make it worth it for me to give it away as a FREE COMIC DAY special. If you think its something you'd like to pick up, let me know before I give them all away. Teachers and librarians especially will find this a great tool for stocking books and keeping them in reading order.
Fear Itself Sins Past, is mostly reprint material. Old Captain America stuff introducing the character that became Sin, Red Skulls daughter. I didn't order very heavy on this, because it seeemed kinda like a ripoff.

FAN APPRECIATION CON

This weekend is the Fanexpo Fan appreciation con. Lots of great guests and great deals, and it won't cost you a penny to get in. That's right, admission is FREE both days. Check it out, its in the South building of the Metro Convention Centre downtown. The same as the huge end of August show. I'll be there with piles of cheap paperbacks and hardcovers, so look for me (buried somewhere near the back of the building probably).

I'm not sure what's up with blogger right now... but I can't seem to get the shipping list for next week to load properly. Only been doing it the same way every week for a couple of years now, but I'm busy getting ready for the show tomorrow, so I'll have to try and straighten it out later.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY - APRIL 13th

Another nice week, with a little bit of everything.
Flash #10 is a little late, but will sell fast as the lead-up to Flashpoint continues.
Marvel is up to their confusing re-numbering gimmicks, as the on-going Thor comic changes its name to Journey into Mystery and a new Mighty Thor comic will start at #1 in a few weeks.
Shield Infinity, is a one-shot that fits between the first Shield mini-series and the next.
Walking Dead Survivors Guide is a handbook style book that will give you the alphabetical lowdown on all the characters that have shown up through the first 83 issues.
The Super-Soldier Annual, continues the story from the X-Men Annual a few weeks ago.

WEDNESDAYs COMICS

Well here's another poor look at what you'll see on the shelves tomorrow morning. I've only had time to read through a few so far.

Fear Itself starts off with an amazingly solid 44 pages of art and story, and I can't wait for the 2nd issue.

Brightest Day is really paying off with the BIG mystery character showing up this issue, and no I won't spoil it for you, unlike so many sites out in the interweb.

Hercules is back from the dead, although not quite the god he used to be. Pak and Van Lente deliver a great story, and the art is nice too. I'll be reading this regularly and hoping enough of you do too, so that it doesn't turn into another "just a mini-series".

And here's a stack of boxes with the first delivery of FCBD comics. I can't believe its only a month away, and I haven't done a huge pitch for it yet.

Lots of great books for all-ages this year, including the perennial favourites, Archie and Sonic. New this year are books like Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Smurfs, Avatar and Kung-Fu Panda. Many are flip books with 2 titles sharing the comic. Marvel is giving us a Spider-Man title and a Cap/Thor book (no big surprise with the movies coming soon). The Cap/Thor book is a beauty, by the team of Landrige and Samnee, that gave us the short lived Thor the Mighty Avenger comic. Disappointingly, the DC books haven't arrived yet, but the Green Lantern one is just a reprint of the first issue of the recent Green Lantern Origin story. However, it will include a preview for the upcoming Flashpoint mega event running through this summer. I'll be handling Free Comic Day the same as I have the last few years. Anyone coming into the store will be given a bag of comics to take home-ABSOLUTELY FREE - The bags are filled randomly and sorted by age appropriateness. And yes, there is a great selection of stuff for adults as well as the kids. SORRY but we just get way to busy that day to give people a chance to pick out individual favourites. But feel free to share and trade amongst yourselves once you leave the store.

More Amazon hate

Proof that I am not the only Amazon hater. Sure its ironic that one of the big box stores that helped close down so many local shops is in turn run over by an even bigger truck. But at least they employed people who worked and spent their dollars in their community. I'd like to stress, that my rant last week was not directed at any of my customers. A couple people who buy their books from me every week, asked about the book in question and got a confused look from me, as I'm not really sure where they may have heard or seen that the book was already out. But the one person, (who occasionally comes into the store to brag about his latest deals from on-line), and who has NEVER purchased a single comic from me at full price,

gave me a speech about how incompetent retailers like me are the reason people HAVE to buy on-line to get what they want. Before leaving, he told the next person in line that she was crazy to buy the book she was holding at full price when she could save "a small fortune" buying it off Amazon.

And, yes, I get people like this on a pretty regular basis. One guy spent close to an hour in the store one day, asking me what I was going to do for a living once digital comics put me out of business. Then again, he was in the printing business before his shop closed down, so maybe his own bitterness was showing.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY- APRIL 6th

A lot of good stuff to start off the month.
The actual first issue of Fear Itself ships, along with the first Home Front issue. The Homefront comic is like the Frontline stories for the last few summer event stories,should be good, but a lot more talking and less action than the main title.
Deadpool Family is a one-shot that sounds a lot like the Deadpool Corps stuff.
Hercules came back to life in the Chaos War, and gets a shot at a new title. I'm surprised they didn't start it with a point one issue, with all the catching up some people will have to do to read this. The paperback ships today too, so that could help.
First Wave Special, could be the last we see of this universe, although Doc Savage and the Spirit seem to be continuing in their solo books.
Marvel gives us another "lost" tale with Thunderbolts from the vault.
Yesterday's Tomorrows, is an amazing collection of sketches and strips by British artist Rian Hughes. Included are some rare stories by Grant Morrison, from 2000 A.D.

I'm not sure just what people are looking at when they come in and ask for this book.

But as the publisher TopShelf has on their webpage, the book is due out in JULY.

Amazon will not support your kids little league team, they don't contribute to your school or charities, they won't buy candy from your daughters Girl Scout troop.

EVERY penny you send them only contributes to the loss of local businesses.

AND THEY DON"T KNOW A DAMN THING ABOUT COMICS!!!
