Tony Chu is a detective with a secret. A weird secret. Tony Chu is Cibopathic, which means he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. It also means he's a hell of a detective, as long as he doesn't mind nibbling on the corpse of a murder victim to figure out whodunit, and why. He's been brought on by the Special Crimes Division of the FDA, the most powerful law enforcement agency on the planet, to investigate their strangest, sickest, and most bizarre cases.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY - MAY 12th

I wonder if the execs at Marvel and DC actually sit around the bar on Friday nights and plan how they can overload at least 1 week each month. Aside from the number of first issues, there's high profile stuff like the last issue of Siege.
Bruce Wayne will be coming back, (no surprise there), and this 6 parter will show us just where he's been and what he's been up to all this time.The covers for each issue fit together into a long poster of his trip through the ages.
The Birds of Prey are back, with a few additions. The newly revived Hawk and Dove join the gang. I'm sure Hank Hall will enjoy his tenure on the otherwise all girl team.
DC's second bi-weekly series begins. Justice League Generation Lost gives us Maxwell Lord, back from the dead, to take down his former teammates.
Titans Villains for Hire is a one-shot starting off the new Titans direction with Deathstoke in charge. (Sounds more like a Suicide Squad or Secret Six storyline).
Marvel gives us the wrap-up to Siege, with issue 4 shipping together with the Avengers Finale and the title only known as Fallen(I assume someone dies in it, based on the little info we get). Next month we get all the restarts for the 20 or so Avengers titles.
Prince of Power sets up Hercs little friend Cho, as his replacement.

Just a quick note to let everyone know that Jeff Lemire will be in store next Wednesday May 12th from around 3:30-4:00 to sign copies of his 2 Vertigo paperbacks being released that day.

Sweet Tooth vol. 1 and The Nobody are arriving together, and if you don't feel like fighting the crowds at TCAF this weekend, you can wait and pick them up right here.

If you can't make it in at that time, drop me a note, or order your copies from the on-line store, and I'll make sure to get them signed and put them aside for you.

FCBD WRAP-UP

Well, another Free Comic Book Day has come and gone. I must say I was not expecting the crowd that turned out, but they were all more than welcome.
Previous years we've seen the stream of customers slow to a crawl as the day wore on, but not
this time. The store was filled nearly to capacity right through to closing.

In total, we gave away nearly 3,000 comics to the over 500 people who passed through the doors in that 8 hour period on Saturday.
Most impressive was the number of families who showed up together, all more than willing to pick up a few bargains along with their freebies.
Despite the less than perfect start to the day, the weather did clear up later and allowed us to move some of the buck comic bins out front. It was a necessary move as the crowd around the shelves in the store was overwhelming at times. Several customers bought as many as a 100 loose comics at the special 50cent price.
And the 20% off books offer kept my staff and helpers busy refilling the shelves.

Speaking of staff, I'd like to thank all my staff and friends who worked tirelessly to help this event move so smoothly, especially young Rob who encouraged the esteemed Cobra Commander to show up and help hand out some G.I.Joe comics. I'm not sure what some of the passers by thought when they saw him out front waving to them in their cars as they drove by, but more than a few pulled over and came in to see what the crowd was all about.
I hope everybody who came in got something they liked and enjoyed the day as much as we did.
I'd like to remind teachers and librarians to give us a week or so before coming in to pick up the school packs we promised them. It takes a while to get everything in the store back in order and up to speed.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY- MAY 5TH

Well,FCBD is upon us once again. If you aren't all read out from your freebies and deals this Saturday, here's what you'll find on the shelves next Wednesday.

Marvel figured we didn't have enough comics featuring their 2 biggest characters, so they've started one with them teaming up. Astonishing Spider-Man/Wolverine is a book we really didn't need, but looks nice.
We got an idea of what the Brightest Day is all about with the #0 issue 2 weeks ago, but the #1 starts off the real story, and you get a White ring with it.
Hellboy goes to Mexico, and gets drunk, in a 1 shot special by Corben.
Its Jonah Hex week, as we get the #1 issue for a buck alongside the current issue, and a paperback full of classic tales too. Looks like the new hardcover will be moseying in, a week later though.
Superman War of the Supermen continues from the FCBD issue, and is a 4 part, weekly story about Zod and the New Kryptonians attacking the Earth.
Vertigo starts another great title with a buck first issue. I Zombie is a tale of a young dead girl just trying to get along, until her brain eating needs compel her to fulfil her meals last requests. Great art by Mike Allred, and an amazing variant cover by Darwyn Cooke.

This is the 2nd time they've done this.!!!!!
The first time, I thought it may have been due to low initial orders.
BUT, I just finished confirming my orders for this book, and it was my highest ordered Showcase volume yet. Easily 2-3 times more than any Showcase to date.
WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM DC, SELL US THE DAMN BOOK ALREADY.
I guess maybe the orders were TOO high and they've decided to take advantage of the fans and put it together in a more expensive package.
Sorry for the rant, but it bugs me that a publisher finally found something I can sell, and then they yank it out from under me.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY -APRIL 28th

YOW!! I thought this was a big week.
Next Wednesday is the last ship day before FCBD, and the publishers are really loading up the shelves for the expected tidal wave of customers and freebie hunters heading to the comic shops on May 1st.
That said, there's not a lot of new stuff that needs mentioning. Most of the #1's on the list are Buck book reprints.
Garrison #1 starts a Wildstorm title set in an Orwellian future.
Spider-Man #1 is the relaunch of the former Marvel Adventures all-ages title. And Ultimate Comics Avengers 2 #1,...well, "nuff said".
Hey, don't forget Fraggle Rock #1, I'll probably wish I'd ordered more of that one.
