NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY -SEPTEMBER 7th

The holiday Monday will NOT affect delivery of this weeks comics.
NEW COMICS ARRIVE WEDNESDAY AS USUAL.

Well the NewDCU gets into full swing with 13 first issues this week.
Theres a lot of buzz on several of them, but of course it will be tough to see anything outsell the appeal of owning an Action #1. It will never be worth the $1 million of the original, but with Grant Morrison writing, I guarantee it will be a better read.
Batgirl looks good as well, Gail Simone never fails to deliver, and most of us just want to see her explain how Babs got out of her chair.
Jeff Lemires Animal Man arrives as well, and he delivers a great, creepy, Vertigo style superhero tale. Also on the Vertigo horror end of the NewDCU, Swamp Thing #1. Scott Snyder has been picking up fans with every title he's done, and I can't think of anyone better suited to write Swampy's new adventures.

NEW DCU

Well the New DCU is off to a great start with the announcement that Justice League #1 has sold out and a 2nd printing is on the way. I still have copies of the first print available, at least for now. The news of the sellout has people calling around to get their hands on one before they are gone for good. If you have any interest in owning a 2nd print copy, make sure to let me know as I am not planning to order any until/when, the 1st prints sell through completely.
Just a warning that Action #1 arrives next Wednesday along with 12 other first issues. If you haven't already reserved a copy, make sure to do it soon.

Events wrap-up

Well saying I'm a little tired right now would be an understatement. The 4 days of Fanexpo were exhausting, but in a good way. Probably the busiest I've seen the show since it started.
The promoters really stepped up and solved a lot of the problems of the previous year. The only major line-ups to worry about this year, were the line-ups for the cash machines.
Even in the midst of selling literally 1,000's of paperbacks over the weekend, I still had a few minutes to occasionally talk to some new customers, including a guy who apparently lives just down the street from the store, AND HAS NEVER BEEN INSIDE. Well after stopping by for the midnight sale last night, I'm hoping he'll become a regular, now that he knows how convenient it is having a store less than a 10 minute walk from his home.
Speaking of the midnight sale...I was surprised how many night owls are in the area. At one point just before midnight, there was close to 2 dozen people in the store, and they cleaned out a good chunk of the paperback shelves. In 1 hour I sold more copies of Justice League #1 than 2 months worth of the previous incarnation of the title.
The only downer of the night was when Gail Simone called to wish me luck with the DC 52 launch, and I was soooo out of it, that I basically said "thanks" and hung up.
I'd like to publicly thank her for the call and say that her Birds of Prey is one of my favourite all time reads and I am eagerly awaiting her new titles Batgirl and Firestorm.
If I actually wake up in time to open the store at a normal hour tomorrow, Ill try and post my thoughts on the newest issue of Previews.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY - AUGUST 31st

Well, I certainly got a lot of comments this week, most involving not getting the blog shipping list out.
Seems like if I want to get attention, I have to do nothing.
Anyway, better late than never, heres what should be on the shelves at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow.

The Con game

Well I just got back to the store, after spending the morning setting up our booth at the FANEXPO. Still a lot of work to do before the show opens at 4:00 tomorrow(2:00 for deluxe pass holders) but I'm excited and anticipating another great show. The move back to the South Building makes it a little tougher to get to, but it's a much bigger space this year with an expanded food court area with a ton of seating, off the main dealers room.
The Comics & More booth is #728, straight in line from the main doors, and just in front of the Warner's booth with its huge WB water tank. No word yet on whether Wakko, Yakko and Dot will descend from the water tower at any point during the weekend.
Haven't had much time to read many of this week's releases, but I love the Flashpoint Kid Flash cover. I know the Flashpoint effect changed quite a few things in the DCU, but the corner of

Yonge and Queen looks pretty much the way I remember it.

MIDNIGHT SALE

Its something I've wanted to try ever since I first opened the store nearly 25 years ago.

Mostly for curiosity sake, just HOW many people would actually show up at the store in the wee hour of the a.m. to save a few bucks?
The main thing was finding an excuse to try it, and the NEW DC 52 event is just such an excuse.

Now normally NO store is allowed to sell any of it's NEW comics before 9:00 a.m. on the Wednesday they are scheduled for. But DC Comics is only sending out 2 books for Wednesday August 31st. Flashpoint #5, the wrap-up to the hugely popular crossover, and Justice League #1, the first comic set in the NEW DC UNIVERSE. And the distributor has authorized the advance sale of these 2 books as of 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday.


So for just this one time(unless it proves popular enough) I will be opening the store at

11:00 p.m. on Tuesday August 30Th for a special 2 hour sale ending at 1:00 a.m.


Now you have to understand that ONLY those 2 new comics, Flashpoint #5 and Justice League #1, will be available for sale. -AND NOT UNTIL AFTER MIDNIGHT-NO other new comics for the week will be on the shelves until 10:00a.m. when the store opens as usual.




BUT, everything in the store will be on sale at 20% off, and as a special reward...anyone who pre-ordered ALL 52 titles(or signs up to buy them that night), will be given a special discount of 52% off any DC trade paperbacks on the shelves.


So come by TUESDAY AUGUST 30th at 11:00 p.m. to help us make history and usher in the NEW DC UNIVERSE, and pick up some great deals for yourself while you're here.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY - AUGUST 24th

Its the last week for the OLD DC Universe so a lot of mini-series tying up(mostly Batman).


DC is starting one new title though, as they ship Superman Beyond # 1. Apparently there will be at least 3 BEYOND titles by Christmas.
Marvel starts the Ultimates at #1 again, with Hickman writing this time, it should be good.
And the 90's return in full force with an new Ninja Turtles series.
