WEDNESDAY's COMICS

The comics are here, where are the customers?
Considering how many people are probably calling in sick today, I figured the store would be busier.


A couple of brave souls have ventured in, and have asked the same question, "what do you think of the new F.F.?"
An odd question that I hadn't even considered, since I don't think of it as a "new" comic. Basically trying to read this "first" issue, without following the series previously would leave someone with a lot of questions. And its not like Spider-Man has never shown up in a Fantastic Four comic before. Still, it is a great read and you'll want to continue, I just can't see it being a jumping on point or anything. By the way, the other comic with the big "F" on the chest is Fables, and not a variant for F.F.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY- MARCH23RD

Well it looks like the publishers are determined to ship everything in pairs or more this week.
2 Green Lanterns, 2 Deadpools, 2 .1 issues, 2 Justice League, and a bunch of Batman , X-Men. AND Captain America. Lets hope people don't forget to check out the relaunch of Fantastic Four this week. Remember, they are all dressed in white now.

WEDNESDAY's COMICS

Hey, I just realized I forgot to show a picture of the comic rack last week. Oh well, here's this weeks shot. I got some help taking this shot from my littlest helper, Veronica, who wasn't really thrilled about working during March Break.

Marvel continues to amaze me with their stellar sales techniques. It's bad enough to put the title of the comic so low on the cover that you can't see it on a rack, but to do it for a comic that features the NEW costume of the main character, ....well that just ain't smart people.
There are a lot new titles I wish I had the time to read before this morning, but the important one was Fear Itself, or the prologue at least. From the looks of it, basically Captain Americas greatest enemy took control of an Asgardian weapon back in the '40's and his daughter , Sin, has finally figured out something to do with it. I can't help but get the feeling that this crossover event was developed by committee, as a way to tie together the 2 characters with movies coming out in a few months, or maybe I'm being too suspicious.

MARCH BREAK SALE

If the weather next week is anything like this week, then there are going to be a lot of parents tearing their hair out with kids stuck in the house during March break.

In an effort to help, I will be having a Sale on toys and games next week,
from THURSDAY through SATURDAY.

All kid stuff, toys, games and even all-ages comics, will be at least 15% off. Other items will be RED TAG marked at special CLEARANCE prices.

ALSO, I will be doing a special offer on older HEROCLIX. Any 4-piece packs will be priced at $5.00 each and with every 3 packs you buy, you'll get a special rare or variant figure.
All other rare and super-rare figures in the glass counter will be 50% off.

For the older kids and parents, all dollar comics on the shelves will be specially
priced at 50 cents each when you buy 10 or more.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY - MARCH 16th

Marvel really needs to get someone on their payroll who understands marketing. Some times it seems like they go out of their way to mess with the titles just to confuse us poor retailers and readers.
Avengers Childrens Crusade Young Avengers, has got to be one of the longest most convoluted titles in Marvel history. Simply put, this series should have just been called, Young Avengers vol.2 and leave it at that.
Deadpool Max History of Violence is almost as bad, and its just a reprint of the first 3 issues of the Mature readers Deadpool comic.
Fear Itself Book of the Skull, sounds like some kind of preview book, when it is actually the lead-in to the Fear Itself event series starting next month.(and they wonder why the orders are low on it) Its just another example of Marvel screwing with us in an attempt to sell 2 "first issues" for the same series.
What Marvel really needs is more plain simple descriptive titles, like Ruse, a relaunch of the Crossgen Sherlock Holmesian character from the '90's.
Phoenix #1 is NOT a Marvel comic,but a relaunch of the old Atlas comic character.
Another old character comes back from the dead(literally)as DC restarts the short-lived Milestone title, Xombi.

Marvel is also shipping a couple of .1 issues together, Hulk and Uncanny X-Force. These have been doing a lot better than I expected, still not sure why.

Bargain hunters can load up this week, with 3 first issues for a buck each. Dark Tower, G.I.Joe and Ghostbusters.

BUT, the real bargain of the week, is World of Archie Double Digest #5, as it brings you the 3 issue mini-series, Tiny Titans/Little Archie, complete for only $3.99. I could sell a ton of these at $10.00 a piece!!

Nice well balanced week, just a little Bat heavy.
Not a lot of first issues to note either.
The Spider-Man .1 issue from a few weeks ago continues in the new Venom #1 this week.
Sigil, is the first of the Crossgen books to resurface at Marvel. It was a good read back then, and with its $2.99 price, its actually a buck and a half cheaper than it was 10 years ago. Well worth checking out.

WEDNESDAY's COMICS

A little late posting this weeks shot of the New Comics shelf. I was in a hurry to close up and get to the movie,Paul, which was great by the way, and I am totally planning on seeing it again when it officially comes out in a few weeks. It was a sharp, funny comedy, loaded with movie references, that just bordered on the right side of punny.
I had Kellie take the photo this week, and I think its actually clearer(if a little crooked)5 Ronin was good, but I'm still not sure if this is just a series of one-shots or whether the characters will interact as the weeks go by. Guess I'll find out next week. Gorgeous covers on both versions will make it tough not to buy 2 copies.
Thunderbolts is still one of my first reads each month, and this issue was a great little spotlight on Man-Thing.
There's 2 issues of Lenore on the shelf. These are the first 2 issues the new colour series for the funniest zombie? comic I have ever read. If you've never tried Lenore, trust me this little dead girl will have you in stitches.
