NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY- MARCH 31st

Kinda late with this list, but the convention took up a lot of time. I'll try and post my thoughts on that later.
Looks like a nice wrap-up to the month. There were 5 Wednesdays in March so thats why we aren't loaded down like every other last week is.
Blackest Night #8 ships, bringing the biggest x-over of the year to its conclusion...until Brightest Day starts in April.
Cloak and Dagger get another shot at a solo title.(There's not much to say about these characters who start new titles every few years, you either like them already or you don't).
Sensational She-Hulk is a one-shot special, celebrating her 30th anniversary with a new story by Peter David and a reprint from John Byrne.
And 3 "BUCK" books ship together. Walking Dead is a title that is perfect for the trial offer, because once you read the first issue, you're hooked. Same with the Garth Ennis version of the Punisher.
I still don't know what they were thinking with reprinting Youngblood #1, but I ordered some for you masochists out there.

Just a note to say that due to scheduling with the Comic convention this weekend,
the store will be closing at 6:00 on Thursday and Friday, this week.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY - MARCH 24th

The Deadpool Corps special is one of those secret files type books. Not for everybody.
Rise of Arsenal continues the Green Arrow story from Cry for Justice.
Nemesis #1 is the Marvel title(not the DC one) by Mark Millar with another take on the
super violent anti-hero idea.
Remember when Marvel canceled all the other Spidy books to just do Amazing 3 times a month?

Well Peter Parker #1 arrives this week, and that puts them back up to 4-5 titles with a total of about 10 Spider-Man related issues every month.

ON A SAD NOTE

I don't normally get personal on here, but this was something I felt the need to share.
I was informed yesterday that part-time helper and friend of the store, Bill Suter, died recently.
I doubt more than a few of you ever met Bill, as he was seldom in the store during business hours. His main role for the last 3 years or so was driving out to the airport about 4:00 a.m. every Wednesday to pick up the new comics. Without his help there wouldn't have been anything on the shelves for you guys to buy when we opened.
He was also an all-round handy man and jumped in to help with pretty much every odd job that came up around here.
Bill was a big, boisterous fellow, who always had a smile on his face. The kind of guy I doubt ever had a bad thing to say about anybody.
My heartfelt condolences go out to his mom, and family and friends.
On behalf of the gang here, I'll add, we miss you already big guy.

A VERY GOOD FRIDAY

It seems like new paperback and hardcover collections are coming out faster than I can keep up.
Every week there are at least 2 dozen more to add to the shelves. I pride myself on having a better selection of paperbacks than most any store in Toronto. The problem is finding room to show them all off.
In order to make room, some work needs to be done to the shelves in the store. To this effect, Comics & More will be closed Easter weekend. The store will be closed on SATURDAY APRIL 3rd as well as Easter Sunday and Monday.
While I would normally be closed on Good Friday as well, I will be open for a special 1 day sale.
FRIDAY APRIL 2nd from 12 noon- 5 p.m.
ALL paperbacks and hardcovers on the long shelves will be 10% off, but if you buy 3-4 books the discount jumps to 25%. And if you buy 5 or more, you'll get a whopping 50% off.
This applies to all paperbacks and hardcovers on the long bookselves along the East wall.
Basically I need your help to clean off the shelves so my staff and I can get to work on them that Saturday.
The sale is for that 5 hour period only on GOOD FRIDAY, no books will be held or set aside, and NO books from the last 3 months will be included. Only books currently on the shelves will be available(no restocks during the day), so arrive early for the best selection.
Come in and help celebrate a Very Good Friday and give yourselves an Easter present.

NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY - MARCH 17TH

Just a few books to mention this time around.
American Vampire is a new Vertigo title thats being billed as "the only Steven King comic that he is personally working on". A dig I guess at all the Marvel adaptations of his work being put out. Then again I notice its a shared credit on the cover with Scott Snyder. The book combines Kings 2 favourite genres, Western and Horror.
The 2nd of 4 planned Green Hornet series starts. This may be a little ambitious, although the regular title did much better than I expected.
The recent events of the Hercules series comes to its conclusion in Hercules Fall of an Avenger.
Marvel also gives us another X-23 mini-series and revisits the Simonson era of X-Factor with another Forever title.

Wizard con tickets

Well I finally got some passes today for the Wizard Toronto Comicon.
I'll be selling these up to the day of the show, or until they run out.
The price is $25.00 for 1 day or $45.00 for the full weekend.
Regular customers can get an extra $5.00 off from me when they pick up their comics on hold.

So a couple guys were in the store the other day, and seemed upset that I had placed a store sticker on the front of the Iron Man #1 reprints we were giving away. They were mad that this FREE comic was now worthless because of my thoughtless need to advertise my store.
The fact is the books did indeed cost me money(as all the comics given away on Free Comic Book Day do) and the ad sticker I put on the front is how I justify the cost to my accountant.
I told them that the following First issue reprints would be stickerless but they have a cover price of a $1.00. They actually seemed to have no interest in any of these after they were told that they are "reprints". Apparently they just couldn't see the point of buying books that "will never be worth anything".
The idea that they could read these books and potentially enjoy them, never entered their greedy little, gotta make a buck off everything, minds.
So in the interest of capitilism and the profit minded among you, I am offering a sure thing investment. A guaranteed way for you to DOUBLE your money.
Pick out any of the dollar comics as they come in, base your choices on genre, story content,cover art, or the name, or anything else of interest. NEW COMICS WEDNESDAY - MARCH 10th

Pretty average week this time around. Couple of new first issues, but nothing really major, mostly just one-shots.
Hulk Let the Battle Begin is billed like a lead-in to World War Hulks, but sounds more like a filler story with some stuff added to help it sell.
JLA Rise and Fall #1 continues the events from the last few pages of Cry for Justice #7 as Green Arrow's actions split the League up.
Superman Last Stand of New Krypton, (besides being a really long title),starts to tie together Geoff Johns long running reboot of the Legion and their connection with Superman.
Mystic Hands of Doctor Strange, is a nice looking Marvel one-shot featuring 4 short stories done in B&W.
The Twelve Spearhead, is a solo issue set in WW2, and does nothing to finish up the main story that never got finished when Strazynski left Marvel. Should read well on its own though.
Wolverine Mr X, pits Wolverine against the killer most recently seen as part of Norman Osborns Thunderbolts.
And the Pet Avengers are back together for another 4 issue run.

Don't forget, this weeks MGC, is Wonderful Wizard of Oz #1, a great book made better when you get it for only a buck.
